Transform Update

March 2020

"COVID-19 Pivot"

Construction Update
Weaver Construction and all our subs were hard at work together in March with an estimated completion date moving up to the first half of June when the coronavirus situation suddenly emerged.

We immediately met with our builder and lending partner, CFR, to evaluate our situation and options. We shared the priorities of 1) protecting the vulnerable by fully complying with government mandates limiting social contact and 2) bringing the building to a safe, secure potential stopping point if required or deemed necessary.

This led to suspending non-essentials like painting and AVL to focus on securing all exterior entries, flashing work on the exterior to make the building watertight, and electrical/HVAC work to ensure proper ventilation. Those projects should be buttoned up this week.

Thankfully, we have wise counsel helping us evaluate what is the best plan forward in light of the current reality and unknowns for the future. We are watching the situation with hearts full of faith and wisdom.

Current Ministry Focus
Meanwhile, our ministry focus shifted to keeping tabs on the best possible ways to help our community and individuals reeling from what has transpired.

We transitioned ministry programs to online platforms, and leaders began reaching out with pastoral care contacts. Budget owners worked together to create a new COVID-19 budget that focuses on essentials so we can shift more funds to help those with lost income.

The pastoral staff built an emergency response plan to address the possibility of widespread cases in our area and how we can best help and share the hope of Christ.

Now What?
We have been evaluating the possibility of continuing construction at a slower pace in a way that honors government mandates. This allows us to monitor funds on two levels:
  1. General fund giving enables us to afford the increased monthly payments that come with additional construction draws.

We have seen around 11% decrease in giving since COVID-19 hit, which is notably less than what other churches have reported.

  2. TRANSFORM giving covers the necessary capital expenses the church pays toward the project.

Our pledges total $1,297,368, and we have received $1,118,391 to date, which means we're 86% of the way there.
No final decisions have been made. Continued support of the general fund and TRANSFORM are a major factor that will affect the speed at which construction could commence toward a fall move-in date.

Thank you for your trust and support. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or ideas. Our leaders are encouraged and confident that God will continue to guide us and provide everything we need to do His will.

And we are confident that we will be able to complete Community Commons in the right time frame and manner.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
