WHAT IS TRANSFORM?
TRANSFORM is the kick-off of a two- year, life-changing discipleship journey. God is moving us to build a new facility here in Harrison on our 10-acre Carolina Trace property which is already owned and to complete the construction of our partner school in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya. Because real transformation always starts from within, we’re asking Jesus to change our hearts and lives first. Then He can bring us together to do bigger things than we could ever accomplish on our own. When we understand who Jesus is and what He has done for us, we can’t stay the same. We are moved to change and changed to move.
WHY DO WE NEED A NEW
Our current facility is hindering our ability to accomplish our mission because parking, seating, kids classrooms, and meeting space that we use for disciple-making is maxing out on the weekends and throughout the week. The building has served us well to this point, but it’s becoming a bottleneck to further growth. Meanwhile, there is a great door of opportunity to bring the Good News of Jesus’ restoration to more and more new families moving into this growing area. The new facility will be positioned close to the new construction and will feature ministry to children and families. As we grow, we can have a larger impact on our community and our world. When we lead others to follow Jesus, be changed by Him, and help others do the same, growth is inevitable, but our goal is not to become a massive mega-church. We don’t ever want to lose the connected, family-feel of the church, which is one of our distinctives. Our dream is to be a community of disciples who make disciples and a church that plants churches.
WHY ARE WE EXCITED TO HELP
MOHI BUILD THEIR BUILDING?
Jesus’ commission is to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 2 :19), so we are proud partners with Global Impact organizations like Missions of Hope International (MOHI) in Nairobi, Kenya. They are successfully joining God in transforming one of the oldest and largest slums in Africa, and we get to join them by sponsoring children and sending teams to serve. Our adopted school, named Kosovo, needs $100,000 to complete the last three stories of their facility, and we feel called to help them. We are compelled by esus’ mission to restore a broken world not just our broken community, and we trust God is going to honor our generosity.
WHAT, SPECIFICALLY, IS BEING
The 15,000 square foot phase 1 facility is not your traditional church building, it’s more like a family life center. It provides opportunities for worship and learning, allowing us to more than double our reach in three services, but it is also used seven days a week with a constant flow of people coming through the doors. There is an open lobby where anyone from the community can enjoy a cup of coffee from the caf and connect with a friend while kids play in the indoor play space. The mid-size multi- purpose room hosts diverse classes, groups, and activities. The safe, state-of-the-art kids wing attracts and impacts families for Christ on the weekends and all week long as it hosts a top-rated, professionally managed, non- denominational Christian early learning center Monday through Friday.
WHY A CHILDCARE CENTER?
A Christian child care center will not only increase our opportunities to reach families in our area, it will provide a consistent revenue stream on space that may otherwise sit unused during the week. This is great stewardship of our resources. We will have amazing partnership opportunities for our children’s ministry to connect with families with kids in the child care program.
WHAT IS THE MASTER PLAN FOR
Our architect (Building God’s Way) specializes in creating multi-use, flexible spaces that serve the community and adapt as a church grows. Together, we have developed a site master plan that includes two additional phases of construction to accommodate future growth. The end-game is not a huge, industrial monstrosity, it’s a high-impact, ministry hub that transforms our area. As God blesses and provides, we will follow His leading to take these next steps.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO OUR
A building research team is evaluating three options: selling, leasing, or repurposing. Our desire is to keep the building to impact our community. The leading concept we’re considering is a hybrid facility that would host our food pantry and rent the remainder of the space to generate resources to fund the building’s operations. We are also exploring how that space could house a Christian business incubator to develop and deploy entrepreneurs with a head for business and a heart for ministry. This fuels disciple-making and generates even more revenue to expand our Community and Global Impact.
HOW MUCH ARE WE SEEKING TO
1.1 million is the goal over a two-year span. A $100,000 financial gift to the Kosovo school in the Mathare valley slum will complete the construction of their school facility, and the 1 million dollar financial investment for a new, high-impact, community-use facility.
CAN WE RAISE SUCH A LARGE
AMOUNT OF MONEY?
Yes! This is a big step of faith, but we believe God will accomplish it through us as we all do our part. This campaign has been prayer-saturated and Spirit-led since its inception, and we are taking this approach with the giving commitments. When we listen to and obey the Spirit’s leading, we will have the funds needed to do what God is calling us to do and we’ll experience new spiritual growth from it.
HOW MUCH WILL WE NEED TO
The estimated cost of the new building is 3 million. We are seeking to raise 1 million through the campaign, and the remainder will be borrowed. Our long-range financial projections forecast this debt service will be in step with national benchmark averages. Because we are committed to being good stewards, our plan is to use the income from the early learning center and business income to expedite mortgage payoff like we did with our current property. Any funds over 1 million that are received during TRANSFORM will reduce the amount we borrow.
WHEN CAN WE EXPECT TO BREAK
GROUND AND MOVE IN?
If a sufficient amount is raised in first gifts and two-year pledges, we are looking to break ground mid-2019. We could be in our building in as early as two years! The sooner we get into the new building, the sooner we see God TRANSFORM more lives.
WHEN WILL WE MAKE OUR
We will make our two-year commitments and receive first gifts towards them in worship services on Saturday and Sunday, May 19-20. There will be opportunities to commit if you cannot attend Commitment Weekend. Remember that you are pledging a special offering that is over and above your regular giving through LifeSpring, but this does not have to be in equal increments over the two-year period of the campaign. You might be able to give more in year two than in year one.
WHAT IF I AM UNABLE TO FULFILL
Circumstances do change. Your commitment is a faith commitment and not a legal obligation. If you are unable to complete your commitment that will be honored and understood.
WHAT CAN I DO? HOW DO I GET
Make prayer your first priority. Pray individually and together that we will respond to God’s call on our lives. Pray that everything we do in this campaign will be consistent with God’s expressed design found in His Word. Pray about your sacrificial gift, and have faith that God will provide. Thank God in advance for what He is going to do.
Also, take time to learn how this building will benefit our community, ministries, and the world. We are confident that as more people understand what God is doing with the TRANSFORM campaign, the more excitement and impact it will have.
We want to keep our focus on the mission not the money, so we are staying away from high-pressure sales techniques and guilt. We simply and seriously ask you to commit to listen and respond to how God is calling you to join Him in restoring a broken world.
